Ian B Powell

Ian Powell has had a career of nearly 40 years as a microbiologist and food scientist working mainly in the area of cheese and cheese starter cultures (and, of course, with the people who make them). This career has been built around using scientific knowledge and investigative methods to solve problems and make practical improvements for the benefit of culture users and cheese-makers in the Australian dairy industry. His roles have straddled the divide between academia and industry, as a communicator and interpreter as well as a researcher, technical specialist, trainer and operational manager. Following the closure of Dairy Innovation Australia in 2016, he describes himself as a freelance scientist.
